In
India, it is perhaps the Hoysaleswara temple dedicated
to Lord Shiva which is most famous for its outdoor wall
sculptures. These sculptures run along the outer wall
of the temple. One of the first sculptures that one sees
here is that of Lord Ganesha in a dancing pose. Again,
right at the end of the wall at the North entrance is
another Lord Ganesha sculpture. Out of over two hundred
sculptures here, the most intricate works however are
to be found over the southern and eastern doorways.
The temple was built centuries ago but the trend of using
wall sculptures to decorate an area is still visible in
modern times in India and all over the world. Wall sculptures
today are made from various materials and metal wall sculptures,
tree wall sculptures are not the only forms of wall sculpting
that is used today. In fact, with the advancement of technology,
even metal sculptures wall hangings as well as wall sculptures
made from other materials are further beautified by turning
them into lighted wall sculptures. In such cases, depending
on the theme and style of the art, lighting is used to
highlight the piece of art. Usually, this kind of lighting
is especially designed by a specialist in the field.
Although sculpture is usually reserved for outdoor use
these days, there are many reasons to use these to decorate
inner areas of a room as well. One can even use lighted
sculptures indoors to serve both decorative as well as
functional purposes.
