Abstract
art sculptures are sculptures in which themes such as
nature for instance do not form the basis of the subject
matter to be represented but rather serve as an inspiration
or source of the artist's depiction. While abstract artists
may have been inspired by nature or some other theme,
the net result of their inspiration may look nothing like
the object that may have inspired them to create. Hence
modern abstract sculptures are generally sculptures in
which the form of the sculpture is a non-representational
depiction of something and can be in the form of abstract
steel sculptures or may be made from other materials.
This kind of art is often confusing for the lay man and
hence has taken a long time to find a place for itself
in the art world.
The contemporary abstract sculptures that we see today
are all a result of the efforts of one of the Romanian
pioneers of the modern art movement. Constantin Brancusi
played a pivotal role in the advancement of modern art
techniques and abstraction. After Brancusi's initial experiments
in artistic sculpting, he steered towards abstract art
creating works featureless works like, 'The beginning
of the world' and 'Bird in space'.
In India, the first forms and themes in art were essentially
religio-philosophic and the subjects of artistic imagery
were mostly inspired from Indian mythology. Modern Indian
art was believed to have been popularized in India by
Rabindranath Tagore who was a great Indian writer, painter
and philosopher. Tagore's artistic works were a fusion
of Western and Indian influences.
